Malignant pleural mesothelioma is another type of cancer. The difference between pleural mesothelioma and peritoneal mesothelioma is the place of growing tumors, in the second type the tumors develop on the peritoneum.

Malignant pleural mesothelioma is the most common type of Mesothelioma cancer, making up over two-thirds of all mesothelioma cases. This type of malignat mesothelioma is commonly fatal and for which there are no widely accepted curative approaches. It is a rare and highly aggressive tumor that has become more prevalent in recent decades.
Pleural is a tiny tissue that covers our lungs. One disease that may occur in this mesothelium is called "Malignant (cancer) Pleural Mesothelium". To much exposure in asbestos may lead in this disease. Asbestos has been identified as the major cause of mesothelioma disease.
This one reason why many cases of mesothelioma found on those person whose work was expose in asbestos.
Malignant Pleural Mesothelioma Symptoms
  1. Shortness of breath

  3. Loss of appetite
  4. Fever
  5. Most common symptoms is "Pleural Effusion"
The mesothelium produces a special fluid that serves as lubricant for chest wall and lung. Too much fluid produce may result to effusion. This is the escape of fluid in one part of the body. Some causes of this pleural effusion is breast cancer, lung cancer and malignant pleural mesothelioma.
Some symptoms may not be determined as symptoms of Malignant Pleural Mesothelioma. It is better to have a medical check-up to confirm if it's cause of malignant pleural mesothelioma or any less serious disease.
Two categories of Pleural Mesothelioma Effusion
1. Transudates- the fluid that effuses is clear and the effusion may not be cause of malignant pleural mesothelioma.
    In some cases the transudent fluid may be cause of:
    - Congestive heart failure
    - Cirrhosis- is an interstitial inflammation of an organ particularly the liver.
2. Exudate- the fluid that effuses is  unclear. The exudates fluid is cause of malignancy. It has a higher possibility that is the cause of Malignant Pleural Mesothelioma.
Many studies show that by instilling the chemical in pleural surface. It can help to control the effusion in pleura. Here are some of the chemicals uses:
  • Minocycline
  • tetracycline
  • doxycycline
  • doxorubin
  • fluorouracil
  • bleomycin
  • mitomycin
  • cisplatin
  • interferon
  • talc
Malignant Pleural Mesothelioma
Diagnosis It is the process of determining the nature of disease. It's important to diagnose the fluid came from pleural effusion to determine its kind and to give an early treatment.
Here are some ways to diagnose the Malignant Pleural Mesothelioma:
  1. CT scans
  2. Ultrasound
  3. Thoracentesis
  4. Special X-ray called "Lateral Decubitus Film
Malignant Pleural Mesothelioma Treatment
The treatment for malignant pleural mesothelioma needs many trials to cure. It has possibilities that after treatment it may re-occur again. The treatment for this disease may depend on the tumor size, type and the resistant of patient.
Malignant pleural mesothelioma is a disease with very poor prognosis, and may be involved with litigation, accurate pathological diagnosis and documentation are very important. Studies have shown the median survival of patients with malignant pleural mesothelioma is 16 months.
